Group Project Idea: Breaking Boundaries

Well, the first project has come to a conclusion, and the new project is underway (though I'll keep working on the dinosaurs because that's just a fun project altogether). However, the beginning of this project requires everyone coming up with an idea, and a bit of a guideline for how things are going to work if this idea manages to win the entire voting process.

To begin with, let's see what this project is all about.

It's a conglomerate of types of animation and video, showing two characters that break free from their workspace and are on the run from their creator. To try to make this daring escape, they have to traverse through the beginning dregs of animation, the storyboards, flip through the sheets of traditional animation, break into a 3D program and navigate with an extra dimension, become a part of a stop-motion/experimental animation and even stepping out into real life to try and find a hiding place.

Of course, the pair of characters currently do not have a concrete design, and the terrain and situations are going to be vague so the creative sectors of the art team can actually have some leeway and play around.

This project is going to require a LOT of manpower in both the art and editorial departments.

This is only a rough idea of the creative team. The heads are not going to just sit around and wait for pieces to be brought to them to put together, however. They'll be going through and putting in help if the crew needs assistance or they will come in to offer advice and help make sure that everything is coming together properly.

The timeline, is, unfortunately, a big work-in-progress, as this is my weak point in anything and that's actually being the person to lay things out. This is not a set-in-stone schedule, but it's a pretty good idea of what work goes where and when.

  1. This sounds awesome! Combining the different mediums sounds difficult but possible with the right people. Are you going to be directing this project?

    1. It is definitely going to be difficult if this is one of the ideas that comes to pass, but get the right crew going and this will hopefully be a project that just pops!
Either director, art director, or head of the concepts and storyboarding is where'd I'd like to be working.

  2. I think this is a really cool concept. It almost feels like that since it's sometimes very difficult to put those ideas down on the paper it's because those ideas don't want to be on paper. They want to live their life.

I think it might also be interesting if we got to see the characters before they were fleshed out on paper.

    1. Yes! They don't want to be simply confined to one little monotonous idea of the creator, they are characters that want to explore the limits, go above and beyond what their creator is expecting of them!

Unfortunately it was rather hard to think of a set character design for the pair of characters on the run, it has to be something that can carry over easily enough from 2D to 3D even to live action video. It's kind of why I didn't provide much in the visual department because I feel there would have to be a design all aspects can agree on that can also be emulated without too much hassle between the mediums.

  4. I love the concept! Especially knowing that it'll give a chance for everyone to use their talents or artistic strengths. It's also very well-organized and thought out. Really looking forward to seeing where this goes!
